The CICA administers a Government fund that was established to administer compensation for the trauma of personal injury for victims of violent crime. Indecent assault occurs when someone uses force or the threat of force to commit a sexual act on another person against their will and includes a wide range of actions varying from touching the genitals or breasts under or outside clothing through to forcing someone to have oral sex or forcibly introducing an object into the vagina or anus against their will. The scope of the offence is wide and even spoken words can make an otherwise innocent act indecent. Touching of bare flesh or of sexual parts is not necessary and it is only necessary to show that there were indecent circumstances in order to prove the offence which can be committed by and against both males and females. An indecent act with a girl under 16 is an offence even if she agreed to it and gave her consent.

Victim Support
This is the national charity that helps people who have suffered physical or psychological trauma as a result of crime. It is an independent organisation, offering a free and confidential service throughout England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Staff and volunteers are trained to provide emotional support, information and practical help to people who have suffered the effects of crime. They also run a support line where people affected by crime can speak to trained staff and volunteers in complete anonymity. Victim Support also offer a 'Witness Service' which is based in every criminal court in England and Wales. Staff and volunteers are trained to provide support and information about the court process to witnesses, victims and their families, before, during and after the police trial.
