PERSONAL INJURY ADVICE FAQS
What should I expect to pay for a solicitor in a personal injury compensation claim?
The solicitors that we recommend do not charge any fee even if they recover compensation for you. The ‘no win no fee’ scheme means that if the case is lost then the solicitor writes off all the fees and expenses incurred by him and he makes no charge to you. If the case is won then the other side or their insurers pay your legal fees and your solicitor receives payment directly from them, and in addition your compensation is paid in full with no deductions.
What is personal injury law?
Personal injury law is sometimes known as tort law or the law of negligence. Torts are civil wrongs that are the basis of a legal claim for negligent behaviour by another person. Injury or harm caused to the victims of such wrongs provides the basis for a claim for damages incurred by the injured party.
How much money can I claim if I sue for compensation?
Money awards in a court case are called damages. Damages usually include pain and suffering for the injury itself, both past and future losses of wages, loss or damage to property or personal items including vehicle damage, general expenses and losses, travel costs and compensation for any help and assistance provided free by friends and relatives.
I think I am being offered reasonable compensation by the insurance company.
It is in your best interest to see a specialist solicitor before signing any papers or accepting any compensation from an insurance company who are usually legally represented and do not have to act in your best interests. Remember that their primary duty is to their share holders and it is in their interests to settle claims as cheaply as possible.
I think I need a solicitor’s advice on this claim, what should I do?
Make sure that you document your injuries and the circumstances surrounding your case while it is still fresh in your mind and do not delay in seeking legal advice or you may run out of time and your claim may become statute barred.
