LEGAL AID INFORMATION
The Scottish Legal Aid Board provides funding to help people claim compensation by paying for a solicitor to put their civil case before a court of law.
- Advice And Assistance helps pay for advice
from a solicitor on any matter of Scots law. With a few
exceptions it will not normally cover representation in court however it covers advice on a wide range of matters relating to Scots law including possible personal
injury claims and medical negligence claims. It will pay for your solicitor to;
- give advice on whether you have a good legal case;
- write letters and get reports.
- make an application for civil legal aid to take the
matter further;
- negotiate the claim to settlement;
- Civil Legal Aid will provide funding to pay for a solicitor to put a case in court. It covers the preparation work,
and the hearing itself and pays for advocates for a wide range of civil cases including actions for compensation for injuries resulting from an accident or
medical negligence. To receive legal aid you must:
- qualify financially;
- have a legal basis for your case;
- show that it is reasonable that you
should receive
public funds to raise or defend court proceedings;
- show that financial help is not available to you from a
trade union, insurance company or professional body.
