UK SPINAL CORD INJURY COMPENSATION

Spinal cord injury is a totally unexpected and devastating event that alters the lives of victims and their families forever. Family and personal finances can be altered out of all recognition leaving many in much reduced circumstances. Most families don't have the resources to provide for the victim over his or her lifetime. We are able to help you claim the compensation you deserve by recommending your claim to a specialist member of The Law Society panel of personal injury experts for free advice. The solicitors we recommend are accredited by The Spinal Injuries Association and are experienced in dealing with injuries of the utmost severity. Our service is completely free, requires no financing and neither us nor your solicitor will make any charge.

Spinal cord injury

is caused by damage resulting in loss of feeling or response. Most of these traumatic injuries are caused as a result of car, sports and work accidents and very substantial compensation can often be claimed against a negligent third party. The disability can be caused by the spinal cord being severed or damaged and either can result in severe loss of physical function. It is also possible to break the vertebrae in the neck without causing any injury to the spinal cord. The injury can be either complete which is where there is no sensation or voluntary movement below the level of the injury or can be incomplete which is where there is some sensation or movement below the level of the injury. Most severe injuries are classified as either 'tetraplegic' or 'quadriplegic' which is where there is paralysis of four limbs or 'paraplegic' which is paralysis of two limbs.

The amount of compensation payable following a spinal cord injury caused as a result of someone else's negligence may include;

  • General damages
    The main item of which is usually pain and suffering for the injury.
  • Special damages
    which includes loss of past earnings, travelling expenses, medical treatment and medicines, personal effects and property, insurance excess and any free help provided by friends and relatives.
  • Future losses
    The calculation of these potentially substantial losses is complex and a special calculation is applied, usually by a forensic accountant, to estimate the overall future losses payable either in a lump sum or by annual payments.
  • Interest
    at variable rates may be payable on some accident compensation.
